Elevate your eye exam: fundamentals of ophthalmic examination

Continuing Education

September 12, 2026

Dr. Kimberly Hsu and team, True North Veterinary Eye Care

Do you finish eye exams feeling as though the eye still has secrets to tell? Are you looking for hands-on CE in an interactive, small group setting? In this fundamentals of ophthalmology course, participants will leave feeling more confident in their ability to accurately perform basic ophthalmic diagnostics and perform a thorough eye exam. Led by a board-certified ophthalmologist and our team of Ophthalmology RVTs, participants will learn the systematic approach to examining each structure within this tiny, beautiful organ. Didactic lectures will be followed by a wet lab, where participants will have the opportunity to develop their exam skills on normal patients as well as patients with ophthalmic diseases. Instruction will focused on using ophthalmic equipment routinely available in primary care practice. However, participants will also be invited to experience equipment more commonly used in specialty care if they wish.

RVTs are invited to register for the lectures and diagnostic wet lab portions of the course as participants. In addition, as an option, RVTs who volunteer to stay to assist in holding animals for the remainder of the DVM wet lab will gain valuable skills in appropriate restraint for ocular exams.
