Conditions of the Hindlimb: Femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO) and medial patella luxation (MPL)
repair are two frequently performed surgeries of the pelvic limb. Join us for this course which will equip
you to successfully perform these procedures in your practice! The course will involve a combination of
short lectures, followed by hands-on cadaver practice under the supervision of a specialist small
animal surgeon.
9-10am: Femoral head and neck ostectomy lecture
10-10:15 am: Break
10:15-12pm: Cadaver lab
12-1pm: Lunch
1-2:30pm: Approach to the stifle and medial patella luxation repair lecture.
2:30-2:45pm: Break
2:45-5pm: Cadaver lab
Presented by Dr. William Hawker BVSc, DVSc, MANZCVS (small animal surgery), DACVS-SA
Dr. Hawker is a 2012 graduate from the University of Sydney, Australia. Following 7-years spent in
general practice he took the specialization plunge. He completed his residency in 2024 and is currently
a specialist small animal surgeon at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph.
With experience on ‘both sides’ of the referral fence, Dr. Hawker is passionate about enabling general
practitioners to surgically upskill.
